Hi! This is my grandparents' old place! I've followed your video blog from the start and despite a few teary moments during your demolition clips as I remembered times gone by, I've absolutely loved watching your progress! Your house is stunning, and it makes me happy to know the people living there love it as much as my grandparents loved their home there. I wish you and your family a lifetime of happiness and prosperity in your new home!

It's amazing! Massive respect to you both. Love the Zero 7 soundtrack too. And how lovely to hear (indirectly) from former occupants.

Will it cost a lot to heat?

I've installed a great little device that I bought from ebay that tells you you electricity usage (£20). So far since the beginning august until now (2 months) we have used about £400. Electricity is our only energy supply, and also during this time the sun has only been shining for about 10 minutes so the solar panels haven't contributed a great deal. I've just completed the fitting of my new stove so we see what that does.

Hi Ash

Thanks for you kind comments. We have tried to keep the spirit of the house the same by building on the same footprint (plus a bit) and trying to make the outside look quite traditional but with a slightly modern twist. We have also recreated the balcony off the master bedroom and most importantly we carefully removed the old chimney pot and replaced it back onto the new house.

Hi Amy! What a lovely house!!! Did you guys build it yourselves? I don't actually know where you guys live - do you live in Glasgow? I had Grace asking me where you lived, and I've drawn a blank : ) She asks what you plan to see in Kilsyth - I've told her Kilsyth Cemetery. Love, Rachel x

Hi, Great house. I want to do a selfbuild this year and have been looking at the SIP method which you used. Because I do not have any plans to get a quote from a SIP company, could you give me an idea of the sq ft / m2 of your house and the cost of your sip's. Many thanks in advance!

the SIPs kit was in the region of aroun £60K. The house is around 320sq meters.

Overall the house was build for less than £1000 per sq m

Great, Thanks.
I'm looking to do a build in Kent, have looked at Sipindustries, From what other people have told me, they will take around 4 days to put up the frame. The cladding of the building is so important and very hard to imagen how it'll fit with the design. There are so many cladding systems out there, I've looked at the NovaBrik system - which will cost me around £12k (est). Can you give any advice on choosing a cladding system for self builders who are looking for an attractive finish at a cost effective price. - My personal max cost for cladding is around £12k.
Thanks!

Your house is stunning! I like the design, it isn't common here in our area. In our home, we just finished our latest task, which is roofing. Omaha, NE is where we live and replacing our roof is not really difficult. Thanks to the dependable contractors we hired.

Hey there Johnathan! I must say, you did a really good job with your house. I cannot imagine how you build it in just a short while. My wife and I are planning for our very first DIY home building project and we're done looking for a good spot. Some of the kits we're gonna use will be coming from my dad who's into construction.

What inspires me more is your lovely bathroom. I like how you installed the shower. We're also dreaming of putting glass doors and windows 'coz we want to connect the inside to nature outside. Your place has a very nice landscape too, sir.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
