We have a friend who is a retired architect and currently converting a remote mountain-top barn into his dream home, and he too used the wire system you've got to rope off a higher balcony area (his sleeping area, in fact). He used a rough-hewn tree trunk as the central vertical structure in his barn, so the wires are attached to that at one end. His house is pretty cool too, but is only a hobby and has taken him years so far!
